What Will You Do, To Make You GREAT?

If, you don't strive, and refuse, to, proactively, do, all you can, to make yourself, the best, you can be, no one else, will! Commit, to regularly, take the time, and make the effort, to give yourself a check - up, from the neck - up, in a truly, objective, introspective way, so you can realistically, know, and understand, your strengths, and weaknesses, and proceed, forward, to effectively take advantage of, and use, every strength, while addressing areas of personal weakness! Ask yourself, what are you, ready, willing, and able to do, and will do, to make yourself, truly, GREAT? With, that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means and represents, and why it matters.

1. Goals; growth (personal): How will you create your personal goals, and, why do you believe these, are the ones, which mean, most, to you? Create a series of goals, instead of one, and consider, them, not only, in the near - term, but also, in the intermediate, and longer - run! What do they represent to you, and how might, they change your life, for the better, in a relevant, and sustainable manner? How will you measure, your personal growth, and, why do you believe, improving, in these areas, are personal priorities, and truly, meaningful, for your health, happiness, satisfaction, and well - being?

2. Realistic; responsible: It doesn't help you, to look, at your life, wearing - blinders, and/ or, rose - colored - glasses! You will only become better, when/ if, you proceed, in a realistic way, and focus, on how to become better! Emphasize, the most responsible course - of - action, for you, to take, to make a meaningful, difference, in your own life!

3. Efforts; excellence; empathy: Doesn't it make sense, to proceed forward, effectively using your efforts, so you might, be able, to consistently, demand your utmost degree of personal excellence, rather than accepting, good - enough? Be willing to listen to others, so you might better, understand, your needs, and priorities, and understand, how, proceeding with genuine empathy, makes you, a far - better, person!

4. Attitude; aptitude; attention; action: Proceed, with a positive, can - do, attitude, so you consider, how you can succeed, rather than focusing on all the reasons, you might fail! Every day, commit to enhancing your aptitude, and skill - set, so you can take advantage of these, and become a better person! Instead of avoiding, and/ or, procrastinating, consistently, be ready, willing, and able, to pay, keen attention, and choose, proactively, taking the best action!

5. Truthful; time - tested; timely; trends: It may feel, more comforting, in the short - term, to lie, to yourself, but, only, when you are truthful, will you be greater! Balancing time - tested knowledge and expertise, with proceeding, with well - considered, timely action (instead of procrastination), and discovering, if any recent/ current trends, might be beneficial, will you help yourself, along the path, of quality, personal growth, and development!

What will you do, to ensure, you have the opportunity, to be, as GREAT, as you might become? Will you commit to the necessary actions?

5 Keys To Make Self - Help Work!

How can anyone, become, the best, he could possibly be, unless/ until, he, first, did everything, possible, to help, himself? While, we often, hear someone, discuss, self - help, it will only make a quality, change, for the better, when/ if, you, proactively, use a variety of methods, and steps, to achieve the most - desirable, results! After, more than four decades, of involvement, in training people, and giving, personal development seminars, I have come to realize, how important, it is, to take advantage of, these 5 keys, to make self - help, work, effectively. With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, some of these, and, how one might, use these effectively.

1. Check - up from the neck - up: Although, it is wise, to do so, very few of us, actually, take the time, and make a concerted effort, to examine ourselves, honestly, and introspectively, or, what I refer to, as, giving yourself, a check - up, from the neck - up! Do this, as you might, evaluate, someone else, in a truly, objective way! What do you like, best, about, you, and what, are you, less - than - pleased, with/ about? Be thorough, and, brutally, honest, for your own, best - interests!

2. Short - term, interim, longer - term: What do you seek, in the short - term/ immediate, interim, and longer - term? How will you reach, these objectives? What should you do, to ensure this, and will you be ready, willing, and able to proceed, with the combination of discipline, and commitment? Will you maintain the endurance, and emphasis, needed, to get, where you hope, to be?

3. Your personal discipline/ How important are your goals, and aspirations?: Are your goals, truly, yours, and how motivating, and personally, inspiring, are they, to you? Will you proceed, and maintain, the necessary degree, of personal discipline, to reach these? Will you maintain the discipline, despite potential obstacles? Will you consider obstacles, to be, challenges to overcome, or problems?

4. Using personal affirmations: Creating, and using an Affirmation List, correctly, and regularly/ consistently, is often, a very effective way, to maintain a productive, positive, can - do, attitude, and take the steps, regularly, to proceed, with the best plan, approach, strategy, and actions, which might work, for you. Limit this list, to ten items, word them in positive (proactive) terms, commit to reading/ reviewing, and caring about them, several times, per day, and, your chances of achieving, are usually, exponentially, improved!

5. Do you, truly, want to make yourself, better?: Do you, really, want to be better, and will you commit, to taking, the steps, needed, to achieve your personal objectives? Don't try to become a clone, of someone, else, but, rather, be the best, you, can become!

Self - help only helps, and works, if you really, want it to! Don't take short - cuts, but maintain the endurance, and persist, and you'll be, on your path, to where you hope, to be!

My Nine Life Lessons

This one is a bit of a departure from my typical article topics.

Recently I wrote a book about what I call "good-enough contentment." It's an allegory about a forty-something man who is unhappy with his life. After a magical train ride, he learns to define what contentment means in nine areas of his life: career, family, health, friendships, finances, leisure, spirituality, giving, and legacy. Writing the story caused me to look back at my own life--the things I did well and the many mistakes I made. It inspired me to write about nine nuggets that I wish I could go back in time to tell my younger self. Some I would have done the same all over again, others radically different. All, however, are worth putting down in writing to spur your thinking about things you need to start, stop, or continue.

Here they are:

Career: Your career can't take the place of family, health, leisure, and friendships - In the movie The Family Man, Nicholas Cage's character is a hard-charging investment banker who gets to see what his life would have been like as a middle-class husband and father. He comes to realize that there's much more to life than business. By all means, continue to vigorously pursue your career aspirations, but not at the expense of other important areas of your life.

Family: Don't squander memories - My father worked very hard as a baker; so much so that he missed out on many family events. In his last years he told me how he regretted missing so many events and milestones with my five siblings and me. Don't look back on your life regretting not being there for the memory makers.

Health: If you don't decide to take care of yourself, the decision will be made for you - I had an emotional breakdown at age 30 due to running myself ragged both mentally and physically. I thought I could just keep pushing and tough things out. Wrong. I had no choice but to stop and make some changes to get myself healthy again. If you don't focus on taking care of your health, something out of your control will happen to force you into action.

Friendships: Have a couple of friends who would help you out at 2 am, no questions asked - Recently I was on vacation when a tenant in our rental property called and said the washing machine wasn't working. I was 3,000 miles away and couldn't get there, so I called a dear friend who was at the rental in 30 minutes and addressed the problem. Having a couple of close friends you can rely on to help you out of a jam is worth gold. Being someone your friend can rely on is just as important.

Finances: No one cares about your finances more than you - When I graduated from college, I bought three books on investing. Those books formed the foundation for my investing discipline. At times, though, I let others who didn't have my best interests at heart manage investments on my behalf. Now I manage every dollar myself and keep current on investment strategies. Putting your money in the hands of a paid advisor will ensure bread is put on his or her table along with your money. Do as much of this on your own as you can.

Leisure: Work/life balance means slowing down, not speeding up - I've known way too many people who worked 60+ hours during the week only to cram "life" activities in the weekend. They had work/life balance, but it was achieved by running 100 miles per hour. Leisure time should include time to relax and recharge, so use at least some of it to rest, and be careful about trying to fit too many things into your life.

Spirituality: Walk the talk on your beliefs - Whatever your spiritual beliefs (mine are Christian), don't be a Jekyll and Hyde in what you say and what you do. Cursing up a storm in meetings during the work week then heading into church on Sunday just doesn't square. It's not about judging your belief system; it's more about ensuring your actions align to your beliefs.

Giving: Give out of love, not out of convenience or obligation - My son loves to cook. He regularly volunteers to cook and deliver meals to families in need. He loves to give of his time and money to help families who need a hot meal enjoy his cooking. The quantity and type of giving is up to you, just do it out of love and enjoy the gratification you get in return.

Legacy: Live to your eulogy - A number of years ago I created a personal purpose statement. After a lot of soul searching, I came up with: I will work to help others to help themselves and not simply enable them. When I die, I want people to say three words at my funeral: He helped me. If you have a personal purpose or mission statement, live it. If you don't have one, a book like The Purpose Driven Life might be helpful.

My hope is that you, my readers, might be able to glean something from my nine life lessons. If I help you do or think differently about some aspect of your life, then mission accomplished. Thank you for helping me live out my purpose statement. Oh and if you'd like to check out the book I wrote go here.

Work Less Achieve More, Right After Reading This Article!

Have you ever wanted to have thirty-six hours a day because twenty-four is not enough? The deadlines for given tasks and projects seem too close that you cannot finish on time. The worse, unbalanced lifestyle enhances stress that makes you unhappy and miss the beauty of your life. However, you're not the only person with twenty-four hours a day, the busiest people with the busiest schedules on this planet have same exact amount of time. They're good at time management because they know how good time management makes their life better.

Wouldn't it be nice if you finish your project or task before given time, so you can take a rest or grab a cup of coffee? When you manage your time wisely, you'll have more leisure time for yourself. More than that, you'll not be over stressed again because you know exactly what comes next (for the most of time). The best part is, you'll have better work and life balance which will give enough time for you to spend with your loved ones or practice a hobby.

If I've got you convinced, let's take a look at how to effectively manage our valuable time with these four proven techniques.

The first and the most effective technique is to plan your day in advance. Think about what you're going to do tomorrow from today and write it down. Of course there're several methods that you can plan your day. For example, journaling; many successful people keep a journal, journals are already made for planning purposes, so it's easy to plan your day with a journal. As a matter of fact, after I started to journal, my life has changed a lot. For me, journaling does more than planning the 'tomorrow' because it helps me to track the whole year. That means, journaling will give you the most accurate analysis of the year and you'll be able to see your development, also correct your mistakes for the next year.

Another way to plan your day ahead is to have a to-do list. It's simple, easy and makeable in no time, simply you write what to do for the day. To-do lists can be in your journal as you wish. To effectively make a to-do list, you should put your tasks in time-blocks. Think about any task that you need to do; writing an essay, hitting the gym or preparing for finals. Whatsoever your task is, put specific time periods for specific tasks. For example, study for an hour, by doing this you force yourself to finish your study in an hour, as a result, you avoid distractions. But wait, how do you guess an estimated time for particular task or activity? If you're unsure about how much time you should set for a task, then you simply test it. Set your stopwatch (you've it in your phone if not on internet) and stop it when you get it done, now you know for how long that specific task lasts. While doing that, you must avoid any distractions like social media or phone calls, remember, you've got limited time to finish your task.

Second, since time management is all about having the best out of your time, prioritizing is the key. "If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first", said Mark Twain. Do your most important tasks first, which is generally in the morning. After you're done with it, do less pertinent tasks. By doing this your workflow gets more organized and helps you to be more sufficient.

Third, take your time, take regular breaks. Without enough rest, you cannot be productive. You can arrange your breaks with Pomodoro technique which was developed by Francesco Cirillo. Basically, you work for twenty-five-minute block and have a break of five minutes. However, I modified this technique for myself and you can do the same because this's like a template that you can use.

You can use this amazing template in two ways, here is what I did, first, I changed the time blocks, for me it is forty-five-minute work and five minutes of rest. On the other hand, when I write, I make the outline first, after I'm done with the outline, I take a rest of ten minutes, then I start writing. As you can see, you can change the time blocks or you can adapt it to yourself as task based breaks. Because in particular tasks, for me it's writing, you get really focused and you're in the flow, so you don't want to stop. After completing four cycles like these, take a longer break of twenty minutes. Again, use it as however it suits you.

The last one, have a morning routine and wake up early. How do you start your day? Do you check your smart phone and go through social media or make your bed? If you're on your phone, then you're wasting your time. Here is what happens, I tracked how much time I spend on social media in mornings and it was approximately thirty minutes. Instead of spending thirty minutes on social media, I started to use that time for myself, the improvement was incredible. If you don't believe me try yourself!

The Power of Setting Goals - Be S.M.A.R.T

One of the most common complaints that many people have in regard to goal setting is that they are just too busy to find time to set goals. We become too consumed by our work and then by our responsibilities for our family that we get little time for personal enrichment of any kind. All these are valid points but if you are going to live a prosperous life you have to learn how to use situations that you consider to be obstacles as motivation and not as excuses. As a family, we have our individual goals, we have our family goals and our business goals. And they are posted within our home so we can keep track.

At first, it was a little uncomfortable sharing our individual goals with each other. I think it had more to do with fear of not accomplishing the goal because now others are aware of your goals and they can hold you accountable. There is joy when you come together as a family and set goals and it is even more gratifying when you accomplish those goals. If your goal is not important to you or if it is not something you deeply want, you probably will not achieve it. On the other hand, if your goal means everything to you, there is no excuse on earth that can stop you from accomplishing your goals. Goal setting should be fun, exciting and S.M.A.R.T.

Specific

Most people have goals to get promoted, earn more money, improve relationships and the like, but these are very vague goals. To be specific, you need to include the full details of your goals. Write down something like, "I will be promoted to President of my company by (date)" "I will run a 5k in an hour" or "I will grow my relationship with my spouse by going on a date every week." Include the names, the position, the amount, the date and everything else needed to train your mind to start working toward that goal.

Measurable

Goals need to be measurable so that you can keep track of how well you are doing. For your business or job, you can include specifics such as the number of hours you are working, the amount you are earning, the staff you are managing, etc. For the goal of attaining more money, you can include details such as the amount you want to earn, save or the number of assets and investments you want to attain. Always have important points and items to be measured so you can understand how close you are to achieving your goals.

Attainable vs Realistic

It is OK to set goals that would stretch you outside of your comfort zone. Make sure you set objectives that you can reach within a given amount of time, provided the current resources and capabilities you have. Some goals can be achieved faster compared to others if you have the right tools and strategies already in place. Always include a strategic plan for big objectives.

Time-Bound

Set "lifelines" to achieve your goals. We don't like the word deadline, we prefer "lifeline". Stay specific when setting timelines and schedules. For example, indicate things like "To spend at least 1 uninterrupted hour talking positively with my spouse every day starting tomorrow (indicate exact date)". Setting the exact time and date will spur you to start working on your goals, instead of putting it off for another day and procrastinating. Some goals can take years to accomplish so it is wiser to break these down into smaller objectives complete with lifelines.

Put these strategies to work and watch you accomplish your goals with ease. You are worthy of achieving your goals so always remember to be S.M.A.R.T while getting them done.
