This Is Why You Should Believe in Your Dreams

We all have heard it countless times, "Believe in yourself!", "Believe in your dreams!". Why and how is another matter all together. So today I thought instead of telling you to believe in yourself and your dreams maybe I should tell you why and how to do that. Because let's face it, when you are down and feel like you want to give up. Even if somebody was to say to you, "Believe in yourself" or "Believe in your dreams", you wouldn't know exactly how to start and worse how to go about it exactly.

Decoding the why and how to believe in your dreams is going to be helpful to you so that you know how to harness the power within you to believe. With such power you will become unstoppable and never allow obstacles to distract you from pursuing your goals.

The "why" is simple, if you do not believe in something your effort and energy towards it reflect that. If I told you to fly to the moon you wouldn't even try unless you have Elon Musk next to you and a couple of astronauts, why? because it seems unattainable you wouldn't believe it can be done. However, if I told you to run a 10km marathon, you would be more likely to act on it because it seems attainable. When we believe something can be achieved, our conscious and subconscious mind work better and influence us to take actions that make it possible to achieve our goals.

All things needed to succeed are born from believing in the possibility of your dream coming to life. Energy, hard work, resilience, failing and trying without giving up are all a product of believing in your dream. In the absence of the belief in your dreams the actions needed to succeed in your goal are impossible to take.

How to believe in your dream is simple but will require you to live more intentionally. Belief and confidence are all like muscle, you train the muscle by starting with the easier weight. We all have things that we have done that we never thought were possible before, maybe this is finding true love, or starting a career or a business. List all things that you thought were not possible before but you happened to achieve in your life. From that you should begin to see that anything you put your mind and energy into is actually possible to achieve.

Adversity Builds Strength

There is an old expression that states: "Experience is what you wish was happening to the other guy!". None of us like to go through difficult times.

Everyone states they want to enjoy good health but really don't want to invest the time and energy needed to embrace it. Finding the motivation to exercise can be an ongoing battle. We know that going to a gym or taking a long walk when we have been sedentary, will cause sore muscles! Learning to cook and planning menus will provide good, nutritious meals that actually are less expensive than eating out or ordering food in, but we need to commit to this.

Building good financial health also requires sacrifice and consistency over time. We cannot ignore bills or spend money on wants when there are needs that are being neglected. The formula for wealth is simple. Earn more than you spend! That might mean longer hours at your job or taking on a second job.

Communication is one of the most difficult struggles in relationships. People don't always say what they mean or say it in a manner than clearly states what they intended. Personal and business issues often occur because of difficult communications between people. Words that are fired with emotion can become abuse. Statements that are not thought through before being delivered can cause hurt for years to come.

Personal trauma often occurs without notice. One might have a serious accident, lose a loved one, or be victim to a tragedy such as fire or violence.

World events can also cause an adversity for which we have less control. Besides two world wars, we have experienced traumatic weather disturbances, pandemics and economic disasters. At times, unemployment has been rampant and fear for the future has dominated thoughts.

This year, 2020, has threatened the health and security of individuals on every continent. The risks associated with COVID-19 and lack of vaccine to combat it has led to a lot of worry and confusion. Unfortunately, we have been receiving mixed messages about how to protect ourselves and others.

Author Scott Peck began his book "The Road Less Travelled" with the words "Life is difficult".

His theme is accurate; however, it is not negative. In fact, Peck argues that once we truly understand and accept this truth, we can transcend.

We will always be disappointed if we assume that life is supposed to be easy and think that we are entitled to have all our goals and dreams met. When that is the case, we can easily become "victims". When things don't go the way we want them to, other people are assumed to be "the enemy" even when they aren't.

On the other hand, the people who have a good attitude and do their best without blaming others for their situation are generally the most content and healthy. They view problems as challenges and accept the fact that it is up to them to navigate life.

Think of some of the challenges you have overcome in the past. Did they help you to grow and mature? Are you proud of the way that you came through the troubles?

Life is difficult - for everyone! But no matter what has happened to you, remember that you do have control over how you navigate through it and whether you do it with wisdom, dignity and grace.

Also, remember, other people are watching you. Are you a good example who will encourage and inspire them as they struggle through their own situation?

Your actions and attitude will give them hope that good things can come from bad times.

Just like going to the gym builds muscles, going through difficulties builds maturity and character.

These Decisions Can Increase Your Happiness

When you use smart decisions and self-awareness to shape your life, it will reflect your deepest aspirations and your fondest dreams.

1. Make your life your own. Decide to re-decide. Re-examine your goals and dreams. Don't just assume that what you wanted yesterday is still the right thing for you. Have your goals and dreams changed? Give yourself the freedom to decide today what you want your life to be about.

2. Make your job a joy. Decide to revitalize your career, or try a new one. Ask yourself if you're really happy and stimulated with your work. If you're not, or if you feel unappreciated or frustrated by a lack of advancement, consider a change. Understand the corporate agenda and be realistic about advancement opportunities at your present job. If you feel you need a change, you may be able to move to a different position or department within your company, or you may want to look for a new job entirely. If you stay at your present job, ask for raises and promotions, if you feel that you've earned them.

3. Take it to the bank. Decide to secure your financial position. Get out of debt, keep yourself on a budget, invest your money wisely and keep abreast of your financial situation. Many women allow their partners to take care of financial matters, only to find themselves unprepared if they become divorced or widowed. Remember, financial stress is one of the greatest stressors of all.

4. Why are you here? Decide to create meaning in your life. Identify the purpose and meaning of your life and define why you are here on earth. When you understand your purpose in life, losses are easier to bear and all other decisions are easier to make.

5. Share your bounty. Decide to give something back. Donate money or put your talents, skills and experience to use by volunteering for causes you care about. People who volunteer have been found to be happier and healthier than those who don't. Remember that charity begins at home, so give to your own family, friends and neighbors.

Whatever you choose, if you make smart decisions, the best is yet to come. Using your creativity, and giving back from the wisdom you've gained through experience, will enhance your value to others and to yourself. - excerpted from The Ten Smartest Decisions a Woman Can Make After Forty.

What Is Holding You Back From Being a Success

Given all the discussions we have, books being written, and seminars being taught on success you would imagine that we are living in a generation of exceptional successful people. But is that really the case? Have we been overtaken by a tsunami of people living the dream and being successful?

Far from it. Certainly, the rich are getting richer given how our laws are tilted towards making that so. And there are those who rise up to become successful, but they are in the minority. Overall a lot of people feel stuck in the mire of mediocrity unsure of what their next steps should be.

It is possible that there is something holding you back from embracing a lifestyle of success you are so worthy of achieving. Sadly, there are not many sources out there to help you get unstuck. There are a few things under your control which may help you to come out of the mud and step into the lifestyle and benefits of being successful;

• What is your personal definition of success - before you can begin any journey you must know the destination you are seeking to arrive at. Success means different things to different people. For some its finishing college, getting married, moving into a new house or landing that dream job. Whatever your definition is you should write it down, so you can be very clear about what success means to you.

• Review your past - take a good look at how you were raised. What environment did you grow up in? Was it accepting or demanding? Did you feel like you were loved or that you had to prove that you were worthy of being loved? Even if you grew up in a performance driven environment but knew you were loved it can help you to strive towards being successful today.

• Examine your present situation - are you surrounded by people who are pushing towards success or are you around people who could care less about success? Show me your friends and I can predict what your future will probably look like. Hang around people who are looking to be successful and those who have already attained a certain level of success.

• What are you willing to sacrifice - you cannot be successful doing what you are doing when what you are doing has not produced success. If you always do what you have always done you will always have what you already have now. You must step out of the box and take a chance at being great. See yourself living the life you deserve to live and ask yourself "what must I do to become this person I envision?

Life Is A Battle Against Yourself

Do you feel like you are demotivated? Or you feel like you are not the same person you used to be? You stop spending time with your friends. You feel empty. The emptiness you felt is draining and distracting you from that niggling drive to do nothing.

Everyone is obsessed with their own problems in life. And now it seems, you're obsessed with yours. You feel guilty and your anger gives way to apathy. You cut them out because you think that they can't hurt you if you don't care about them.

The hardest battle you will ever face is the war against yourself. You know you can win the battle! However, you kept telling yourself that you can't do it and it's too hard to accomplish. That you are not worthy or not good. You overthink yourself just to have a ton of excuses as to why you can't do things to improve yourself.

You are the only person standing in the way of yourself. No one else. The key to unlocking that greatness is by becoming your own greatest ally. What you need to do is to accept that you have limitations. Apart from this, turn this fear as your inspiration to strive for more.

Don't let your fears stop you. Be bold and relentless in attack your fears head-on. Win the battle against yourself and when you win that battle you will grow as a human being and achieve the life you want to have. You deserve so much in this world. You just need to stop letting your own foot get in the way. Again, be strong. It's okay to be afraid sometimes but never let it overpower you.

To win the battle against yourself, you need to understand what do you want most in your life. Understand that the battle against yourself is the hardest battle. Your mind constantly makes up a mountain of excuses as to why you can't do that thing to keep you where you are.

Because you are afraid of the change that will come from going after your dream. It doesn't matter whether the change will be good or bad when your ego is afraid to change.

Do you know that successful people face their fears head-on and overcome them? They aren't afraid of change because they aren't controlled by fear! Unsuccessful people, on the other hand, allow fear to overcome them and hate when anything changes in their lives.

Change is inevitable and the sooner we realize it, the better we will be. We cannot go after our dreams if we are afraid. It simply won't happen. You will constantly make up excuses as to why you can't do it or why you are not good.

So, never let your fears stop you from achieving your dreams. You need to be relentless in attacking your fears head-on. That's the time when you can truly be successful, overcoming the battle against yourself!

When Things Look Bleak, Live Your Life One Day At A Time

Slow Down And Reassess Your Priorities

How are you coping at the moment? What are your chief concerns? How are you dealing with it? Even though we're living in tenuous times, it is important we check in with ourselves regularly. People cope in different ways, some better in stressful conditions, while others internalise their stress. We ought to deal with what is affecting us, instead of repeating the patterns of the past. Whist the pandemic may appear bleak at the moment, it doesn't mean it will be permanent. Mankind has faced many challenges throughout history.

Regrettably, many people will succumb to the virus and their families and friends will be affected. It is tragic when people lose their lives to a disease beyond their control. But we mustn't live in a constant state of fear because what we dwell upon may come to pass. We should focus on taking the smallest step to secure our dreams and best future. Life will improve, there are no two ways about it. We have experienced these challenges before and will overcome them again.

In times like this, our attitude determines our altitude; how high we soar above our challenges. It is how we respond in times of crisis that determines whether we stay stuck or look for positive solutions. Man's greatest discoveries were made during some of the darkest periods in human history. Mankind is resilient and can overcome any of life's challenges, with the right mindset and attitude. Knowing this, what actions could you take to deal with your worries? Does it involve giving attention to your mental, emotional and physical well-being? Perhaps it requires less interaction with social media and the news, or reaching out to friends and loved ones more often?

When we take each day as it comes, we become present to the moment, rather than hope for a future that may not arrive as we expect. I'm getting the sense that this pandemic is teaching us to slow down and reassess our priorities. It is inviting us to place value on the importance of family, friendships, purpose and living in the present moment. Being grounded in the now helps us anchor ourselves to our present moment experience. It reduces the stress of living in the future, and we become grateful for each moment we're alive. So, when things look bleak, we ought to live one day at a time and savour what we have.

Live Each Day As Though It Were A Precious Gift

Does it make sense that scurrying from day to-day does little to bring you peace of mind? It only compounds to the stress experienced before the pandemic. In a recent video blog titled: Although The World May Never Be The Same, You Can Still Find A New Normal, I outline five ways to find a new normal going forward. I explain that we are being invited to create a new paradigm for our future, rather than bring the old with us. This will mean letting go of how the future should be and allow life to fill us with: peace, harmony, cooperation and togetherness. We ought to think differently about how we live, otherwise we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes. As you know, this pandemic has ruined many lives and businesses, not to mention the financial burden on world economies.

So, let's hunker down and learn the lessons instead of blaming others for the way things are. Yes, we're all in this together because our choices impact others. For example, not wearing a face mask in public can have a devastating effect on thousands of people. This is an opportunity to look into ourselves and examine our motives, to see whether they are aligned with a new world being ushered in. So, what are you giving your attention to right now? What do you hope to create going forward? What do you want to see in the months and years ahead? Begin where you are now and live each day as though it were a precious gift, instead of lamenting how things should return to normal. The normal we once knew wasn't working, so life is giving us the opportunity to write a new script

Savour every moment because life has a way of turning at the drop of a hat. Take inventory of your life, no matter your age and decide what you'd like the world to look like. Your actions have a ripple effect, in ways you can never imagine. Act locally but think globally, goes the saying. So, after you finish reading this article, go back to the questions at the beginning and answer them as best you can. Check in with yourself regularly and optimise your mental and emotional well-being. After all, when things look bleak, living one day at a time opens you to infinite opportunities that you may not have seen before.
