Why Worry Is Always Based On The Future, While Gratitude Is In The Here And Now

The Mind Cannot Be Trusted

What preoccupies your mind with worry? Why do you worry? Is it to maintain a sense of control? Perhaps you feel engaged in something you are powerless over? I want you to recognise whether worry is serving you, so you can break the cycle and find inner peace. Yes, it is possible to let go of worrying, but it will require work on your part. So, are you committed to changing? If so, let me show you how to go from worrying to a state of inner freedom.

When we worry, our mind is projected into the future, since we believe we cannot handle what will take place. Therefore, worrying is trying to control something we have little or no control over. Author and psychotherapist David Richo echoes this sentiment in his book The Five Things We Cannot Change, where he states: "We worry because we do not trust ourselves to handle what happens to us. We worry because we do not trust that the way the chips fall will work out for the best. We worry because we have not yet said yes."

The key to overcoming worry is to recognise the mind cannot be trusted, given its inherent negativity bias. Evolutionary psychologists believe the brain has adapted to thousands of years of evolution to screen for inherent danger within our environment. When humankind first roamed the Savannah centuries ago, assessing for a potential threat, it was an important period in our brain's evolution. Yet, nowadays, the threat is no longer necessary, however our biology has not caught up. In other words: Our mind still looks for a threat to our safety and survival, even though the threat isn't as imminent nowadays. Nonetheless, we mustn't allow ourselves to worry about something that may or may not happen. We can safely remind ourselves all is well and redirect our attention to what we are grateful for, here and now.

Uncertainty Needn't Mean Worry Or Fear

Are you happy with this idea so far? Can you appreciate your mind is engineered to help you survive? Therefore, we mustn't get stuck in incessant worry, but reorientate ourselves back to the present moment. Each time we bring ourselves back to the present, we strengthen neural pathways in the brain. It requires practice, patience and persistence to notice our habit of worrying. If we can practise shifting our attention from the future to the here and now, we will see positive changes in our life.

To express it differently: We must learn to observe ourselves when worrying and create a space between the observing mind and the worrying mind. It involves inhabiting our mind and body instead of letting our mind wander into the future. In the same way we have taught ourselves to worry, we can train ourselves to be grounded in the present moment through mindfulness. It is why anchoring ourselves in gratitude will help us let go of worry, since it is the bridge between the present moment and the future. In other words: Gratitude is choosing to look at reality through a new filter instead of worry, anxiety, and fear. Yes, the future is uncertain, but uncertainty needn't equate to worry or fear. Uncertainty can be filled with unlimited possibilities that can benefit us. It requires we keep an open mind and not catastrophising situations beyond our control.

Training In Awareness

Is this something you're willing to practise? Can you give yourself the gift of releasing your worries and fears and anchor yourself in the present moment? You are worthy of self-love by directing your attention towards inner peace. Negative emotions such as worry, anxiety and fear cloud our judgement about what is real. They are the fake news of the mind and an illusion that keeps us trapped and isolated. But this needn't be your reality, if you're willing to rewrite a new script for the future.

And here's the thing: Gratitude allows us to focus on what is real and fix ourselves in this state. Gratitude is the language of love because it is grounded in appreciation. We cultivate a loving heart through the power of acceptance. Therefore, we ought to focus on what is tangible instead of the illusory states of mind, to let go of worry and fear. Even though the mind tries to convince you the future is uncertain and terrifying, it is a fabricated narrative invented by the ego. But it needn't be this way because we have the power to redirect our attention to the present moment.

Practices such as breathwork, mindfulness and meditation are helpful to navigate fear, worry and anxiety. For example, we can practise sitting alone in silence and focus on our breath. As we breathe in and out, we safely anchor ourselves to the present moment. Similarly, through mindfulness, we learn to bring our attention to the present moment when our mind wanders to the future. Meditation is the practice of training in awareness and detaching from our thoughts, so we become the observer. We can follow our breath while meditating and notice the bodily sensations that rise and fall. This powerful practice is a portal to the here and now and a practice we can cultivate daily. Even though the mind has a negativity bias toward danger, we can change our response to worry be being mindful of our thoughts. After all, each time we focus on gratitude, we strengthen neural pathways in the brain, which ultimately become our new reality.

The Secret to Happy Life

Here is a list of 15 essentials a person should strive to achieve happiness:

1. GOOD HEALTH - First and foremost is GOOD HEALTH. So take care of Physical and Mental Health problems. If you do not enjoy good health you cannot be happy. Any ailment, however trivial, will deduct from your happiness and make it harder to be happy. While it's not always possible to "cure" everything, address your physical and emotional needs as best as possible. Some people allow themselves to have lingering pains, or struggles with depression. Take the steps to address it. It will change your entire experience of the world.

2. A HEALTHY BANK BALANCE - Money cannot buy happiness is true and every billionaire is not happy. However, poverty is stressful; and if you can pay for the basics comfortably - it will remove a lot of that stress from your life. You don't have to be wealthy, but some amount of financial comfort will prevent the worries about the basics of everyday life. It need not run into millions but should be enough to provide for creature comforts and something to spare for recreation, like eating out, going to the pictures, travelling or going on holidays on the hills or by the sea. So have a few bucks in the bank. Shortage of money can be demoralizing. Living on credit or borrowing is demeaning and lowers one in one's own eyes.

3. A HOME OF YOUR OWN - Rented premises can never give you the snug feeling of a nest which is yours for keeps that a home provides; if it has a garden space, all the better. Plant your own trees and flowers, see them grow and blossom, cultivate a sense of kinship with them. "God is not found on mountain tops. He lives in cozy homes and within you."

4. AN UNDERSTANDING COMPANION - Be it your spouse or a friend. If there are too many misunderstandings, they will rob you of your peace of mind. Don't settle in who you marry. Marriage is the single biggest decision you make, so be picky and marry the right person for you. Don't rush in because you think it's "time" or you feel "pressure." Marry someone you are excited about, who makes you feel amazing, and who is good to you down to their last breath. Don't compromise or settle on this one - it makes a large part of the mood of your home every single day... why not make it great! It is better to be single than to bicker all the time. Choose your friends and people around you carefully - they will have an effect on your mind and soul.

5. LACK OF ENVY - Stop comparing with those who have done better than you in life; risen higher, made more money, or earned more fame. Envy can be very corroding; avoid comparing yourself with others. You will become vain and bitter. Because there will always be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Being happy in your own skin is one of the biggest keys to happiness. A lot of unhappiness comes from people believing that they are "less than" because of images they see or messages they ingest. You can be so much happier going all-in on you.

6. BE OKAY WITH BAD DAYS - Part of living a happy life, is realizing that you won't be happy 24/7, and being fine with it. You'll have times of grief, and times of irritation, and times of stress or anxiety... and that's fine. Accepting that you're a human with a range of emotions, and seeing every day as a new day, is part of what makes you happy. Self-acceptance of just being human and not too hard on you is massive. "Life isn't burger king. You can't always have it your way." "Life is a circle of happiness, sadness, hard times, and good times. If you are going through hard times have faith that good times are on the way. The higher the aim, the more struggles."

7. DO NOT ALLOW OTHER PEOPLE - to descend on you for gossip and bad mouthing about others. By the time you get rid of them, you will feel exhausted and poisoned by their gossip-mongering. Always remember: "Intelligent people talk about ideas. Average people talk about things. Small people talk about other people. And fools argue."

8. CULTIVATE SOME HOBBIES - that can bring you a sense of fulfilment, such as gardening, reading, writing, painting, playing or listening to music. Do more things you like! This sounds silly, but there are people who say they used to love painting, but haven't done it in 10 years! Why? Life gets so busy that the first things we cut are sometimes hobbies - we don't see them as "essential" or "important," but they absolutely are when we're talking about happiness. Make time for things you truly enjoy - it makes life more enjoyable. Going to clubs or parties to get free drinks or to meet celebrities is temporary fun and waste of time.

9. SEEK OUT THE GOOD - Your mindset and mood are often influenced by what you feed it. This is true of people you surround yourself with, and even the media you ingest. Limit toxic people. Limit toxic headlines/news media, and seek to spend more time/energy with the good. Choose your friends and people around you carefully - they will have an effect on your mind and soul. "A good life is a collection of happy moments. Be happy for this moment this moment is your life."

10. HELP OTHERS - If you want to be happy, there is a lot of joy in helping others. Some of what makes life wonderful is feeling useful, helping another without expecting return, and being reminded of your own good fortune (gratitude)... even if that is driving a friend to a doctor's appointment, or helping a neighbor carry her groceries. Making the world a better place makes you feel better too.

11. LIVE IN THE PRESENT - Today is a new day, and some people have pasts that are incredibly hard. Live in the present, not in the past... or you'll be stuck there and miss the great stuff of today. "Yesterday is a history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift that is why we call it present." Live each day as it was your last. Tomorrow is not promised." "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain."

12. MOVE YOUR BODY - Being able to move your body a bit will keep you happy. There are seniors doing shows where they dance, and young kids running in the yard. You don't have to be an Olympian to move... just even going for a walk every day, or doing some stretches. Your brain has a way of responding to movement that makes people feel happier. "Life is like riding a bicycle, if you don't move you fall."

13. HAVE NEW EXPERIENCES - Doing something new doesn't have to be traveling to a distant land - maybe it's just trying your hand at baking a pie, eating a new type of food you've never had, fixing something around the house you never did before, taking a new route for walk, or visiting a small town nearby you've never been to. New experiences give us things to look forward to, things to talk about, and bring back some of the curiosity of being a child.

14. LOVE IN YOUR LIFE - If you have a person who truly loves you in this world, and accepts you for exactly who you are - it will help contribute to your sense of happiness. Even having a pet that loves you can also help this. Love is powerful, and while it isn't everything, it makes the bad times easier to bear. Being loved, and loving another brings many people great satisfaction and joy.

15. INTROSPECTION - Every morning and evening, devote 15 minutes to INTROSPECTION. In the morning, 10 minutes should be spent on stilling the mind doing meditation and breathing, and then five in listing things you have to do that day. In the evening or before sleeping, 10 minutes to still the mind again, and five to go over what you had undertaken to do.

Here're some quotes for you to enjoy!

"Your career, your spouse, and your children are like a three-legged stool of Happiness. The stronger the legs the better is the stability."

"A good life is a collection of happy moments. Be happy for this moment this moment is your life."

"Our attitude defines life:

Life is best for those, who just want to live it.

Life is difficult for those, who want to analyze it.

Life is worst for those, who want to criticize it."

"One of the greatest blessings in the world is to be able to be happy even when things in life are not going the way we planned."

"Don't wait for the perfect moment, take the moment and make it perfect. And be happy for this moment; this moment is your life."

"Never blame any day in your life. Good days give you happiness, bad days give you experience, and the worst days give you a lesson."

How to Craft Affirmations That Work

Affirmations can be a big help in creating the things, experiences, relationships, careers, spiritual growth and bank accounts you want. But, if done incorrectly they can come back to bite you. The important thing to remember about affirmations is imagining you already have what you want and tuning into the feeling that brings you.

Here are some guidelines to help you get the most from your affirmations:

1. Keep them short. Getting too wordy becomes unwieldy. You want your affirmation to be clear and unambiguous.

2. Use the present tense. If you say things like,"I will," you keep what you want in the future. The use of "I am" is very powerful language. So, you can say "I am so excited to be in my perfect career," instead of "I will find my perfect career."

3. Make it a positive statement. Avoid using words like "no," "not," "never," "nothing." The Universe and our subconscious minds don't hear negatives.

Law of Attraction author and speaker, Michael Losier, says the Universe is like Google. Try Googling "No football" and see what comes up! Phrase your affirmation in terms of what you DO want.

Instead of, "I am not afraid of speaking up at work," change it to, "I feel confident and at ease when I speak up at work."

Another word to avoid is "want." Want focuses on lack. It makes you aware of not having it yet.

4. Be specific about what you want. Fuzzy thinking and vague affirmations get fuzzy results. Instead of "I have more money," say "I am so happy and grateful that I now have $100,000 in savings."

Just saying "more money" means you can find a dime on the ground and that's it. Well, great, that's more but not even close to what you really want! (By the way, if you do find a dime on the ground, acknowledge it! Every chance you get to appreciate increase sends a message you're open to it!)

5. Make it emotionally meaningful for you. Think about how you expect to feel when you attain your goals. Including words that evoke positive feelings as you say your affirmation make it more powerful.

The Universe doesn't respond to our words. It responds to our vibration. What we are energetically vibrating is the result of how we feel. As in the example above, adding "I'm so happy and grateful" is one way to add positive emotion to your affirmation.

There are many words that can add that emotional boost to your affirmations, such as: enjoying, excited, celebrating, joyfully, effortlessly, easily, confidently, lovingly, gratefully, cheerfully, proudly, effectively and more!

Ex: I am lovingly supporting my children to be fully themselves.

I joyfully allow myself to choose my own path in life.

I am so excited to be doing work I love.

6. Be your genuine self. Phrase your affirmations like you normally speak. You want your affirmations to resonate with you are. And, most importantly, have fun! Have fun writing them and have fun saying them!

7. Be aware of how you feel as you say them. If you notice you're feeling contracted rather than expanded when you say an affirmation, it could be because you're having a hard time believing it. That disbelief is usually coming from a subconscious belief. When that happens, try using "I choose" or "I've decided" before the affirmation.

Ex: "I choose to joyfully allow myself to be who I am."

"I've decided I enjoy being myself, just as I am."

The subconscious can't argue with a decision or a choice

You can also use this for committing to a process or habits you want to cultivate. For example, if your goal seems to big to feel comfortable you can focus on the process that gets you there. Instead of, "I am a successful, published author." You could say, "I choose (or I've decided) to write for 30 minutes a day."

8. Let the Universe figure out the "How." Your job right now is to be clear about what you want and to focus on the feeling of having what you desire. Write your affirmations with that in mind.

When you try to think of how you could possibly get what you want, it introduces worry and the feeling of lack. The Universe will orchestrate the component parts that are necessary to bring about your desire.

Be open to inspired ideas that occur to you and take action on them then. It's fine to put a plan in place and take action on it if it feels good. Just be open to any ideas that pop up or strong feelings guiding you in a certain direction. It may not seem like it has anything to do with your goal. Then you'll be surprised about how it all worked out!

Closing Thoughts:

You may want to keep a journal for writing down your affirmations, then say them aloud. Decide when you will say your affirmations. First thing in the morning or before bed are good times. You may prefer to do them at mid-day as an energy booster. You could add them on to the end of a meditation, or think of them while you're meditating. Some people like to have music in the background while saying affirmations. The music should be soothing and relaxing, to help you stay open and positive. It's really up to you and what feels good to you!

The Missing Ingredient to Success

There are many ingredients to success: talent, creativity and insight, hard work, patience and persistence, good luck and synchronicity, the right beliefs and attitude... Did I miss something? Oh yes - spiritual practice.

Of course you can lose weight, become a capable doctor or an excellent lawyer, and be a decent mother or a successful sports player simply by doing (studying, training, working, etc.). But are you going to have satisfaction around your success? How many people do you know that seem to have achieved it all and feel miserable at the same time: exhausted, underappreciated, over-worked, never good enough (despite surface appearances), never quite there, and sometimes even not sure if that's the right thing to do and the right place to be. And then there are also those who seem to be doing all the right things and don't even achieve apparent success, not even in the eyes of the others. Why?

The answer is because dissatisfaction runs together with an overemphasis on the doing. Remember the notorious phrase Be-Do-Have? If you skip the being and jump onto the doing, you never quite end up having (personal satisfaction, successful closure, peace and happiness). You keep doing and no matter what you achieve or produce, you feel you need to do more because... If you however go a step back and focus on the being, you will end up having all that you want and more.

The being step means that you have a spiritual practice around what you do and what you would like to have. That doesn't mean you become superstitious or a religious fanatic. It means you spend time in meditation, introspection, contemplation, appreciation, prayer and gratitude. This way you can activate the higher brain, you can operate from your higher self, and you can receive guidance (through insight and intuition) simply because you feel connected to the resources of the universe and you act out of something larger than you (not because your ego wants to compensate for inferiority complexes or fears lack and separation).

Thus, if you precede the doing with being (in meditation, contemplation, prayer and gratitude), and then take action, your endeavor will be highly successful in the following respects:

1. You will know you are on the right path; you won't have second thoughts and doubts in the process or regrets later.

2. The path will be easy and things will flow (since you will be energetically aligned with the cosmic tides of power); even difficulties will be met with grace.

3. You will have a sense of fulfilment every step of the way; it won't feel like a rut race, constant stress and in the end - no feeling of satisfaction.

In a nutshell, surrounding your projects with some form of spiritual practice guarantees your success and happiness not only on paper but also in your heart.

A Proper Attitude Can Bring Success!

A Proper Mindset Can Bring Success!

Success begins with attitude. Various attitudes provide different end results. A weak state of mind results in adverse outcomes. A favorable state of mind causes success. While your experience, education, learning, and abilities can matter a great deal, your frame of mind can make all the distinction.

Thankfully, any individual can establish an attitude for success. It's absolutely less complicated and doesn't take as long as grasping a complicated technique!

Produce a way of thinking that develops success! Consider these parts in your attitude:

1. Thankfulness, aka gratitude. Be happy with what you have. Enjoy the success of others. If you cannot rejoice for others when they succeed, your very own success will undoubtedly be restricted.

2. Assessment of danger is an incentive. Competent individuals are masters at reviewing risk as well as benefit. Not so successful individuals either refuse to assess any kind of hazards or handle ways to mitigate the threat for the prospective incentive. Neither is an effective method to move towards a positive, successful life.

3. Concentrate on psychological, [and also] physical health and wellness. Compromising your health and wellness for success isn't a real success. What do you truly obtain if you accomplish your objectives yet compromise your physical or psychological health and wellness at the same time? Know the risks before going after success.

4. Wealth. How much you are worth is not a viable goal in a 'success' mindset. Just look around at people with plenty of money and lots of things, and you'll find most of them worry about losing it, acquiring it, how to hoard it and get more. Wealth is about nurturing contentment in relationships while doing the greater good. It's not taking, it's giving!

5. Embrace your failings! Actually, that's the momentum test of life. Failing is ensured to take place; count on it. Gain and be nurtured in your errors, mistakes, and blunders. Treat them as opportunities for yourself and others around you. Whatever you do, don't play the blame game. If you do that, you've just lost the momentum test in this situation. In weakness, you become stronger.

6. Development. A successful mindset is a healthy appreciation for self-learning; being teachable is a great way to pick up new skills. You cannot attain new ideas without expanding on an old thought in a unique situation. It could come from your abilities, perspective, self-control, or guts that sees that opportunity to develop. If you are presently stuck in a rut, relish it and feel confident; you are feeling the teachable growing pains zone.

7. Determine to be uneasy. Being in a comfort zone is definitely not your friend. Development isn't pleasurable. There will undoubtedly be some pain as you create your own paths, fall short, as well as making errors. Also, success can be unpleasant. Exactly how uneasy are you going to be to come to be effective? The fear of being uneasy is the restricting success aspect for the majority of people.

8. A favorable perspective. I call this a positive mental attitude, but before you can acquire that, you need to be relaxed and smart. So, how you approach the tasks of your day and the mundane things determines your success. If you're grumpy, bored, and aggravated, well, your day is going to be miserable. The other choice is to look at your day as a grand adventure. Each task and its function becomes a nugget of opportunity to be polished and nourished, providing an unimaginable wealth of greater good.

9. Preparation. Success for every individual is a specific objective. You're not likely to strike it on the first go-around or for that matter, several go-arounds. Without a particular plan in mind, preparation, and continually tweaking as you're arriving, you are counting way too much on good luck to sensibly anticipate success.

10. Be your own coach. The prevailing thought is to hire an advisor that has actually accomplished the success you want. There lies the rub. You have a unique idea; it can't be fitted into someone else's application. I cannot imagine the tech founders of the computer era having a coach; I think the computer would have been delayed by decades. Frankly, virtue is in the eye of the beholder. Embrace the challenge, be skillful, decisive, and don't stop nurturing forward.

Consider your existing attitude contrasted to the present outcomes you're experiencing in your life. Can you see an endless loop, or do you see a seamless link?

If you really feel that you have the abilities to be effective, yet still lose, it could be time to have a look at your state of mind. Each individual has a choice in their way of thinking. There are no conditions for having a pleasant state of consciousness; you can simply choose. Put your faith in yourself by choosing to be successful!
