How to Craft Affirmations That Work

Affirmations can be a big help in creating the things, experiences, relationships, careers, spiritual growth and bank accounts you want. But, if done incorrectly they can come back to bite you. The important thing to remember about affirmations is imagining you already have what you want and tuning into the feeling that brings you.

Here are some guidelines to help you get the most from your affirmations:

1. Keep them short. Getting too wordy becomes unwieldy. You want your affirmation to be clear and unambiguous.

2. Use the present tense. If you say things like,"I will," you keep what you want in the future. The use of "I am" is very powerful language. So, you can say "I am so excited to be in my perfect career," instead of "I will find my perfect career."

3. Make it a positive statement. Avoid using words like "no," "not," "never," "nothing." The Universe and our subconscious minds don't hear negatives.

Law of Attraction author and speaker, Michael Losier, says the Universe is like Google. Try Googling "No football" and see what comes up! Phrase your affirmation in terms of what you DO want.

Instead of, "I am not afraid of speaking up at work," change it to, "I feel confident and at ease when I speak up at work."

Another word to avoid is "want." Want focuses on lack. It makes you aware of not having it yet.

4. Be specific about what you want. Fuzzy thinking and vague affirmations get fuzzy results. Instead of "I have more money," say "I am so happy and grateful that I now have $100,000 in savings."

Just saying "more money" means you can find a dime on the ground and that's it. Well, great, that's more but not even close to what you really want! (By the way, if you do find a dime on the ground, acknowledge it! Every chance you get to appreciate increase sends a message you're open to it!)

5. Make it emotionally meaningful for you. Think about how you expect to feel when you attain your goals. Including words that evoke positive feelings as you say your affirmation make it more powerful.

The Universe doesn't respond to our words. It responds to our vibration. What we are energetically vibrating is the result of how we feel. As in the example above, adding "I'm so happy and grateful" is one way to add positive emotion to your affirmation.

There are many words that can add that emotional boost to your affirmations, such as: enjoying, excited, celebrating, joyfully, effortlessly, easily, confidently, lovingly, gratefully, cheerfully, proudly, effectively and more!

Ex: I am lovingly supporting my children to be fully themselves.

I joyfully allow myself to choose my own path in life.

I am so excited to be doing work I love.

6. Be your genuine self. Phrase your affirmations like you normally speak. You want your affirmations to resonate with you are. And, most importantly, have fun! Have fun writing them and have fun saying them!

7. Be aware of how you feel as you say them. If you notice you're feeling contracted rather than expanded when you say an affirmation, it could be because you're having a hard time believing it. That disbelief is usually coming from a subconscious belief. When that happens, try using "I choose" or "I've decided" before the affirmation.

Ex: "I choose to joyfully allow myself to be who I am."

"I've decided I enjoy being myself, just as I am."

The subconscious can't argue with a decision or a choice

You can also use this for committing to a process or habits you want to cultivate. For example, if your goal seems to big to feel comfortable you can focus on the process that gets you there. Instead of, "I am a successful, published author." You could say, "I choose (or I've decided) to write for 30 minutes a day."

8. Let the Universe figure out the "How." Your job right now is to be clear about what you want and to focus on the feeling of having what you desire. Write your affirmations with that in mind.

When you try to think of how you could possibly get what you want, it introduces worry and the feeling of lack. The Universe will orchestrate the component parts that are necessary to bring about your desire.

Be open to inspired ideas that occur to you and take action on them then. It's fine to put a plan in place and take action on it if it feels good. Just be open to any ideas that pop up or strong feelings guiding you in a certain direction. It may not seem like it has anything to do with your goal. Then you'll be surprised about how it all worked out!

Closing Thoughts:

You may want to keep a journal for writing down your affirmations, then say them aloud. Decide when you will say your affirmations. First thing in the morning or before bed are good times. You may prefer to do them at mid-day as an energy booster. You could add them on to the end of a meditation, or think of them while you're meditating. Some people like to have music in the background while saying affirmations. The music should be soothing and relaxing, to help you stay open and positive. It's really up to you and what feels good to you!

Instructions for Living Life the Easy Way

It is said that we humans are so linear that we always need someone to give us steps or instructions before we move into action.

Well, that's right.

We ARE human and we DO need step-by-step instructions to help us learn new things. Otherwise we flounder around wasting time and energy, making needless mistakes.

Those who have gone before, walking on the leading edge of life, have learned the hard way. They've made all the mistakes for you. Many of them have become mentors, coaches, and teachers. What they share is what they know... what they've learned the hard way. You can also do what they've done, only easier, faster, and more simply. All you have to do is heed the knowledge that they have to share.

For you disbelievers, go ahead and do it your way. After you've run into dead ends, circled back again to start over only to run into complicated detours and potholes the size of school buses, maybe eventually you'll arrive at your goal. When you do, you'll find others waiting for you. Those would be the people who used the knowledge and followed the instructions from the ones who have gone before them.

Or maybe not. These smartie-pants who heeded the wisdom shared by others who went before them may have gotten tired of waiting for you. In their excitement to move on to the next level of this Game we all chose to play here on Planet Earth, they're very much excited to keep progressing. Especially when it's so easy. They've learned that all they have to do is borrow the knowledge and wisdom of those who have pioneered the way for them to speed them on their journey.

Being one of those who chose to walk the leading edge and be in the forefront of this magical, mystical movement we call "Human Evolution", I've learned how valuable it is to others that I leave instructions behind on my path. It keeps those who are following me from making ALL the mistakes that I and others like me have made.

Of course, making mistakes is part of learning. But there's no reason why you have to make every single mistake that's possible to make. Just a few will do nicely to help you remember the learning.

Here's the #1 rule for simple, fast, and easy learning: Read the instructions.

Before you make one move, read the instructions. All of them. And before you step into action, re-read the first step in the instructions. When you've complete that step, read the next one before moving into action on it. Repeat until you're complete with the process.

For those of you who are with me on the leading edge, before you jump into yet another brand new experience, take a few moments to create instructions for those who are following in your footsteps. Let them know which footsteps will assist them to gain the greatest value in their new knowledge. Warn them about those steps you found that slowed you down, blocked your progress, or even forced you to turn around and find another path.

Make it as simple as possible for those behind you to quickly catch up with your progress. Be linear and create simple, numbered instructions. In this way others whom you've helped catch up to you will find it easier to help those who are following them... much like you did.

Here's one of my favorite methods for living life the easy way. It'll help you make challenging life choices simple and effortless. It's been gleaned from my years of experiences and tons of mistakes:

1. Make a list of every option you can think of. Even those that may not seem very attractive. Leave a few lines of space between each item.

2. When you're complete with your list, close your eyes and envision yourself doing the first option.

3. Notice how you feel. Remember, feelings are physical sensations we call "emotions". Anything else is a thought. Inserting "I feel like" in front of a thought does not make it an emotion. Pay particular attention to what you're feeling in the areas of your stomach chest, shoulders, and neck. If you're adept at sensing energy, notice how your energy shifts - or not - during this visual.

4. In the space you left below that option, note what you felt.

5. Repeat #2 through #4.

When you're done with this exercise, you'll know without a doubt which option is the best one for you to choose.

The reason this works so well is that it avoids using your mind. Your mind will lie to you and keep your head whirling with "maybes" and "what ifs". Your body knows the truth and willingly shares it with you. All you have to do is ask your body a question and then recognize the answer.

This little method has worked amazingly well for me as well as everyone I've shared it with. Try it the next time you're in a quandary and don't know which direction to take.

How To Feel Good Often, For No Other Reason Than The Feeling Itself

Become Inquisitive About Your Emotional Life

How often do you feel good, for no other reason than to experience the feelings alone? How do you create these good feelings? Do you listen to music? Exercise? Spend time with those you love or something else? I realise I'm being particular about my questions because I want you to connect with those pleasant emotions. Some people feel guilty because others might be in pain or suffering. Therefore, they feel obligated to downplay their own emotions. But this doesn't serve anyone, because feeling good about yourself can help to uplift others who are experiencing pain or suffering.

For example, think about when you're in the company of an inspiring person. How does it feel to be in their presence? Are you drawn to their charisma, energy or enthusiasm? I know when I'm around such people, I am drawn to their attractive personality. I'm not talking about a romantic attraction but the intensity of the energy the person exudes. Our vibration is one of the most powerful mechanisms we have, and learning to control it, can be a significant measure of how we connect with others. Positive and enriching emotions come not only through other people but through ourselves. There is a sense of rapture, as though time standstill when we experience flow states.

We ought to experience more positive emotions without trying to manufacture them, especially if we are sad or depressed. We must connect with all our feelings and experience them without manipulating or anaesthetising them. Our emotions are our guidance system. They are like a sonar that helps us make sense of our world and create our experience of life. The more we connect with the frequency of our emotions and how they flow through us, the richer our experience becomes. Are you happy with this understanding? Can you see that every emotion you experience is true for you? It requires feeling it honestly, instead of trying to change its path. It is about being authentic with ourselves, so we can live a rich and abundant life.

When we feel good often, for no other reason than to experience the richness of the feelings, we align with our core self. This doesn't mean we will experience positive emotions all the time, since that would be inauthentic. What I'm suggesting is we learn to play with our contrasting states, so we can pull ourselves out of negativity and move to higher emotional well-being. For example, have you ever woken up feeling out of sorts emotionally? There may be no reason for your mood, but it stains the rest of your day and you cannot shake the feeling. We must become inquisitive about our emotional life and process our emotions as honestly as we can. We can then ascend the emotional scale towards freedom, instead of disempowerment.

Connect With What Is Taking Place Inside Your Body

There are many practices and techniques to help facilitate this experience, which I encourage you to explore. If you are working with a trained therapist, they will help you find emotional stability, so you don't experience high or low points. These high or low points happen when our blood sugar rises after eating sugary foods. We experience a spike in blood glucose levels and feel energised for a short period, then our blood sugar levels drop and we are tired, lethargic and moody. The key is to regulate our emotions, so we are in control, instead of letting our emotions dictate our experience. Are you seeing that you can be in charge of your emotional well-being? It is not something you cannot change? You have the power to regulate your emotions and master how you respond to external situations.

It's worth re-stating, if you are working with a therapist, they can help you regulate your emotional well-being. For most people, feeling good often, is one of the most beautiful experiences we can have. Long ago, after a gradual awakening, I experienced moments of bliss and joy throughout the day. It felt incredible, beyond what words can describe. I wanted to hold on to these feelings and make them last, yet sometimes they were fleeting, while other times they lingered for hours, sometimes days. For example, I would walk through the park and be overcome with a sense of oneness and radiating energy of love throughout my body.

It felt strange because I didn't know how to process these feelings. I didn't know how long they would last. Other times I felt guilty, especially whilst others were experiencing pain and suffering from trauma. So, I suppressed my emotions, believing it would ease their suffering. But it didn't help them, nor me. Therefore, I learnt to regulate my emotions, so when I experienced enriching feelings, others would benefit from them. As alluded to earlier, when we are in the company of positive people, we can't help but be drawn to their radiating energy. We can learn to model ourselves on these people and create these emotional states within us. With this in mind, I'd like you to become more aware when you experience positive emotions and journal your experience. Try to connect with what is taking place inside your body. Learn to discern the subtleties of the human body, when you're feeling good. As you do, you can fill your container of life with more uplifting emotions instead of reliving negative emotions from the past.
