4 Practical Ways to Accomplish More in Less Time

Our modern world stresses heavily on improving productivity, better management of time and resources, and producing results, to the point that countless books and articles that discuss such topics in detail have been written and published.

This post is about practical ways to accomplish more in less time.

Apply These Fool-Proof Techniques

Write down your goals and to-do lists.

Let's say you've been thinking of monetizing one of your hobbies, like quilling, knitting baby bonnets and beanies, or repurposing old jeans to denim tote bags. One of the first few things you should do is to jot down the costs of materials needed and other overhead expenses.

You might also factor in whether you'd like to sell your handmade creations in a bazaar or craft show, a gift or souvenir shop, or online. You need to set up different ways of accepting payment, so handling your cash flow will be as convenient as possible.

Master/discipline your moods.

I've been a freelance writer and proofreader for roughly 15 years. I'm aware that a common dilemma faced by freelancers, when faced with a particularly tough task, is to seek a distraction. I turn on the TV, hoping to catch something interesting "for just an hour," until that one hour extends to an entire afternoon of mindlessly watching sitcoms or soap operas.

Mastering one's moods simply means not giving in to sudden jolts of laziness, excitement, irritability, or impatience.

Curb your whims and desires.

Maybe you're a stay-at-home mom who works part-time doing data entry and writing blog articles. You know you can't just accept a spur-of-the-moment invitation to have lunch with your friends when you have looming deadlines.

Figure out your "why" (motive for doing things) so you can find out "how."

You may be active in your church and looking to go on mission trips, but because of limited funds, you haven't gone anywhere.

However, you know that all you care about is the opportunity to reach out to people. So you decide to join another ministry in your church, which is handwriting encouraging letters and notes on blank cards and mailing them to the elderly in seniors' homes, deployed troops, and prisoners.

Set Priorities Through Omission

Get a piece of paper and write down 15-20 life aspects and activities that occupy your time. Use a red pen and put a check next to five items on your list that you consider to be "non-negotiables," such as career, family obligations, finances, volunteer work, or participation in a certain group or organization.

Next would be putting a plus sign next to five items that can be classified as secondary activities. This could be hobbies, or anything you do for fun or recreation. They may or may not bring you additional income, but if they help relieve stress or provide ways for you to relax, then it's reasonable to make time for them.

And then, narrow down your list by eliminating 3-4 activities you only do occasionally or randomly. Next, cross off 2-3 more items that you realize are mere "time wasters," like spending hours on social media, binge-watching Netflix shows, or keeping tab on celebrity gossip.

This is not to say that you must abstain totally from such activities. But if you normally spend an hour or more on most days of the week on social media, simply cut back by scheduling time during weekends (e.g. two hours each on Saturdays and Sundays).

Use Dovetailing in Order to Accomplish More

Unlike multitasking, which tends to be detrimental in the long run because one ends up compromising the quality of one's work, dovetailing is the habit of fitting together two tasks that can easily go well together.

A good example of dovetailing is asking your kids to set the table while you heat dinner inside the microwave. So is jotting down your grocery list while waiting at the doctor's or dentist's clinic.

You can also keep yourself fit by lifting a pair of dumbbells while enjoying your Netflix shows, or doing a series of squats, steps, lunges, sit-ups, and push-ups while listening to podcasts or your favorite music.

Have More Time by Delegating

All of us are highly skilled at a few areas but hopelessly inept at others. If you wish to continually improve or grow in those areas, carve out more time for them by delegating the tasks you're not good at to others who are better equipped to handle them.

To illustrate, if you manage an online business, you can focus on improving your products while outsourcing tasks to a freelance SEO copywriter. You can also pay a bookkeeper to handle invoicing and receipts.

If you're a busy working mom, consider hiring a baby-sitter or pet-sitter at least twice a month so you can have dates with your spouse, or have a few hours to yourself to read, do needlework, or enjoy a home-made facial. You can also pay a couple of college guys hoping to make some extra cash to clean your yard or vehicle.

Will You Recognise the Path Forward?

Imagine your dream life for a moment:

You have a fulfilling career that pays well.

It leaves you plenty of time to spend with your loved ones.

Folks adore, respect and recognise you, as you change the world for the better.

Tell me...

Would you recognise the steps towards this life if you saw them?

It's deliciously easy to imagine the end - how it all turns out once everything goes right. But for everything between here and there...

There's the old adage that opportunities come disguised as hard work.

But it gets worse than that. A willingness to work hard won't answer all your problems. Opportunities wear fractal disguises - even when you zoom in and peel back the layers, it's not always clear what you're looking at.

This can be a problem with affirmations.

You might not know what you truly want... so your affirmations focus on the wrong thing.

But even if you get that right - which is a big 'if' for most of us - that doesn't mean it'll all be peaches and gravy for you.

You still have to recognise opportunities when they come.

And then you have to take them.

The good news is it gets easier to spot the chances in your life. After all, that's one of the main benefits of affirmations. The more you repeat them, the more it trains your unconscious mind to look for what you want in the world around you.

The bad news?

It doesn't always make it easier to take them.

You still have to act.

That means knowing when the opportunities are real, and not you tricking yourself.

That's the easy part.

The harder part is when you abandon all excuses, fears and distractions.

Change is hard. It's literally painful. That can make it easier to run away from opportunities - to lose yourself in distractions like video games and work.

Or to think you don't deserve this.

But you do deserve this. The fact you're even making a real effort to change proves you're worthy.

Besides, plenty of losers make it big all the time. You have more potential - more 'worth' - than them. So if they can do it, so can you.

All you need to do is commit, not quit.

Affirmations will only help you if you take advantage of them. The best car in the world takes you nowhere until you drive it.

If you want something badly enough to even consider affirmations, then it's time to go for it.

Time is ticking.

What will you do now?

There are two ways to do affirmations:

There's the easy way, where you stick a note on your fridge and pretend it'll work.

Then there's the right way.

Affirmations aren't a shortcut to better things. They take discipline and persistence. But I pity anyone who doesn't sharpen their mind and focus every day.

Making Affirmations Work For You!: 5 Essentials

Although, nearly, everyone, claims, they want to become the best, they can possibly, be, few seem ready, willing, knowledgeable - enough, or able to/ capable of, proactively, doing things, which will better - position, themselves, to make wiser decisions, and take better actions/ strategies, to overcome their personal weaknesses, and effectively, take advantage of their strengths! Some individuals have discovered, the ability of properly using affirmations, to be, a great, first - step, to make this meaningful journey, of self - discovery, and improvements! Unfortunately, many, either, are not aware of, or don't take doing this, seriously, and thus, lose a terrific opportunity, to be better, and overcome personal challenges! With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, 5 essential parts, of making, and using affirmations, properly, and effectively, for self -improvement/ enhancements!

1. Check - up, from the neck - up/ know and understand your personal priorities: Take the time, and commitment, to give yourself a thorough, check - up, from the neck - up, so you are able to be honest with yourself, and objectively, and introspectively, become better! Don't rush through this, but, rather, determine what you really want, and how to align your goals, and priorities, to serve you, in a meaningful manner! Doing so, you will be able to identify, and understand, both, your strengths, as well as weaknesses, in order to become better prepared, and effective!

2. Consider/ create 10 items/ things, you wish to address, proactively: An affirmation should be, a positive statement, stated, in the present - tense! Studies indicate, creating 10 items, at a time, and writing them down, is, probably, the most effective approach. For example, if you feel, you need to lose weight, avoid saying, I need to go on a diet, but, rather, phrase - it, something, like, I am proud of my body's appearance, and constantly, commit, to doing, whatever, healthy actions, will maintain that.

3. Put them down, in, positive, personal, active statements/ affirmations: Write down your 10 affirmations, and review them, carefully, to ensure they are your true priorities/ goals/ emphasis, etc! Affirmations work, most effectively, when they are personal, positive, and make a true difference, for the better, both, actually, as well as, how one perceives them!

4. Read them aloud, 3 times per day: Don't just write them down, but, commit, and have the discipline, to read them, slowly, and in a meaningful way, at least, 3 times, every day, into a mirror, if possible! For many people, doing this, first - thing in the morning, when you return home, from work, and before going to bed, are the best times. Studies show, when you write things down, and read them, aloud, they have the most impact!

5. Commit to doing so, daily: Effectively, using affirmations, requires the commitment to doing so, every day, on a regular basis! If, done, properly, it directs you, to making significant changes, which, might, make you feel better, about yourself, and your self - worth!

If you hope to become the best, you can be, making and using personal affirmations, may be, a significant, effective tool! Are you willing, to make this commitment, and maintain it?

5 Keys To Make Self - Help Work!

How can anyone, become, the best, he could possibly be, unless/ until, he, first, did everything, possible, to help, himself? While, we often, hear someone, discuss, self - help, it will only make a quality, change, for the better, when/ if, you, proactively, use a variety of methods, and steps, to achieve the most - desirable, results! After, more than four decades, of involvement, in training people, and giving, personal development seminars, I have come to realize, how important, it is, to take advantage of, these 5 keys, to make self - help, work, effectively. With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, some of these, and, how one might, use these effectively.

1. Check - up from the neck - up: Although, it is wise, to do so, very few of us, actually, take the time, and make a concerted effort, to examine ourselves, honestly, and introspectively, or, what I refer to, as, giving yourself, a check - up, from the neck - up! Do this, as you might, evaluate, someone else, in a truly, objective way! What do you like, best, about, you, and what, are you, less - than - pleased, with/ about? Be thorough, and, brutally, honest, for your own, best - interests!

2. Short - term, interim, longer - term: What do you seek, in the short - term/ immediate, interim, and longer - term? How will you reach, these objectives? What should you do, to ensure this, and will you be ready, willing, and able to proceed, with the combination of discipline, and commitment? Will you maintain the endurance, and emphasis, needed, to get, where you hope, to be?

3. Your personal discipline/ How important are your goals, and aspirations?: Are your goals, truly, yours, and how motivating, and personally, inspiring, are they, to you? Will you proceed, and maintain, the necessary degree, of personal discipline, to reach these? Will you maintain the discipline, despite potential obstacles? Will you consider obstacles, to be, challenges to overcome, or problems?

4. Using personal affirmations: Creating, and using an Affirmation List, correctly, and regularly/ consistently, is often, a very effective way, to maintain a productive, positive, can - do, attitude, and take the steps, regularly, to proceed, with the best plan, approach, strategy, and actions, which might work, for you. Limit this list, to ten items, word them in positive (proactive) terms, commit to reading/ reviewing, and caring about them, several times, per day, and, your chances of achieving, are usually, exponentially, improved!

5. Do you, truly, want to make yourself, better?: Do you, really, want to be better, and will you commit, to taking, the steps, needed, to achieve your personal objectives? Don't try to become a clone, of someone, else, but, rather, be the best, you, can become!

Self - help only helps, and works, if you really, want it to! Don't take short - cuts, but maintain the endurance, and persist, and you'll be, on your path, to where you hope, to be!
