10 Ways to Boost Your Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is the backbone of a person's success. It is a quality which helps you realize your potential and worth, so that you always work towards harnessing your full potential. When you start doubting your own worth, you can become a victim to serious problems such as depression. A person who is depressed has no willingness or motivation to live and can, therefore, develop suicidal thoughts in his mind.

Hence, it is very important to boost your self-esteem. When you know your worth, it helps you achieve bigger things in your life than you ever imagined. If you thought you could build your self-esteem by mental tricks and visualization techniques, you are mistaken.

James T Canmore, in his book, "Hole in the Soul to Supercharged Spirit" explains that your mind can never heal your soul; instead, it is your soul that heals your mind. The 10 practical self-esteem boosting tips mentioned in this book are:

  • Be nice to yourself
Never be too harsh on yourself and don't always try to find the negative aspects of things that you do. Give yourself a pat on your back for any good job that you do.

  • Look after your physical body
Your soul and mind can be healthy only when your body is healthy. Therefore, never neglect your health at any cost. Eat the right foods at the right time, get enough exercise and remain fit & healthy.

  • Take regular stock of your strengths and weaknesses
You should know what you are good at and what you can improve upon, if you want to realize your potential. Develop your strengths while you spend additional time and effort to work on your weaknesses and bridge the gaps there as well.

  • Surround yourself with positive people
Ensure that the group of people you are hanging out with is full of positivity and happiness. Their positivity can rub on you as well.

  • Be a supportive friend to others
Listening is a skill and not everyone is a master of it. You can improve your self-esteem considerably by just being there for your friend and lending him a listening ear.

  • Take care of your appearance
You should spend enough time and effort on your personal grooming because how you look plays an important role in how you feel mentally & physically as well.

  • Do something nice for someone else
The feeling of helping others is priceless. Do whatever you can to make others happy. It will make you feel good about yourself.

  • List your accomplishments daily
Make a note of your achievements on a daily basis so that you know where you stand. It can boost your morale significantly.

  • List and follow your passions in life
Write down all your passions and make some time to follow them whenever you can so that you feel like you are adding meaning and value to your life.

  • Be true to yourself
None of these above tips will work if you aren't honest to yourself. Set reasonable targets and appreciate yourself when you meet them.

When Things Look Bleak, Live Your Life One Day At A Time

Slow Down And Reassess Your Priorities

How are you coping at the moment? What are your chief concerns? How are you dealing with it? Even though we're living in tenuous times, it is important we check in with ourselves regularly. People cope in different ways, some better in stressful conditions, while others internalise their stress. We ought to deal with what is affecting us, instead of repeating the patterns of the past. Whist the pandemic may appear bleak at the moment, it doesn't mean it will be permanent. Mankind has faced many challenges throughout history.

Regrettably, many people will succumb to the virus and their families and friends will be affected. It is tragic when people lose their lives to a disease beyond their control. But we mustn't live in a constant state of fear because what we dwell upon may come to pass. We should focus on taking the smallest step to secure our dreams and best future. Life will improve, there are no two ways about it. We have experienced these challenges before and will overcome them again.

In times like this, our attitude determines our altitude; how high we soar above our challenges. It is how we respond in times of crisis that determines whether we stay stuck or look for positive solutions. Man's greatest discoveries were made during some of the darkest periods in human history. Mankind is resilient and can overcome any of life's challenges, with the right mindset and attitude. Knowing this, what actions could you take to deal with your worries? Does it involve giving attention to your mental, emotional and physical well-being? Perhaps it requires less interaction with social media and the news, or reaching out to friends and loved ones more often?

When we take each day as it comes, we become present to the moment, rather than hope for a future that may not arrive as we expect. I'm getting the sense that this pandemic is teaching us to slow down and reassess our priorities. It is inviting us to place value on the importance of family, friendships, purpose and living in the present moment. Being grounded in the now helps us anchor ourselves to our present moment experience. It reduces the stress of living in the future, and we become grateful for each moment we're alive. So, when things look bleak, we ought to live one day at a time and savour what we have.

Live Each Day As Though It Were A Precious Gift

Does it make sense that scurrying from day to-day does little to bring you peace of mind? It only compounds to the stress experienced before the pandemic. In a recent video blog titled: Although The World May Never Be The Same, You Can Still Find A New Normal, I outline five ways to find a new normal going forward. I explain that we are being invited to create a new paradigm for our future, rather than bring the old with us. This will mean letting go of how the future should be and allow life to fill us with: peace, harmony, cooperation and togetherness. We ought to think differently about how we live, otherwise we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes. As you know, this pandemic has ruined many lives and businesses, not to mention the financial burden on world economies.

So, let's hunker down and learn the lessons instead of blaming others for the way things are. Yes, we're all in this together because our choices impact others. For example, not wearing a face mask in public can have a devastating effect on thousands of people. This is an opportunity to look into ourselves and examine our motives, to see whether they are aligned with a new world being ushered in. So, what are you giving your attention to right now? What do you hope to create going forward? What do you want to see in the months and years ahead? Begin where you are now and live each day as though it were a precious gift, instead of lamenting how things should return to normal. The normal we once knew wasn't working, so life is giving us the opportunity to write a new script

Savour every moment because life has a way of turning at the drop of a hat. Take inventory of your life, no matter your age and decide what you'd like the world to look like. Your actions have a ripple effect, in ways you can never imagine. Act locally but think globally, goes the saying. So, after you finish reading this article, go back to the questions at the beginning and answer them as best you can. Check in with yourself regularly and optimise your mental and emotional well-being. After all, when things look bleak, living one day at a time opens you to infinite opportunities that you may not have seen before.

10 Reasons Why A Gratitude Journal Could Be Your Best Idea Ever (And Why You'll Want To Start Today)

We have all heard about the 'attitude of gratitude' and how we're 'supposed' to think positive thoughts. But how on earth do you do it? How do you take the 'stuff' that life throws your way and turn it into smiles instead of sulking? Here are 10 reasons why you might want to use a gratitude journal to help you with all of this - and why you'll want to make a start today.

A gratitude journal can be an elaborate book with a beautiful cover, or it can be a simple notebook, it doesn't really matter. What counts is that you write in it regularly - and keep it somewhere that you can review it, whenever you want to. Here are 10 reasons to keep a gratitude journal - and how it can change your life, starting today!

  1. It's fun! Keeping a gratitude journal is fun! Just imagine doing it every day for a year and then looking back to experience the great stuff that happened in your life! Sure that's worth a few minutes of your time, each day?
  2. Your body feels every thought you think. Whether you're living in a stressful situation or just thinking back to one, your body doesn't notice the difference. It will still fire off all of those stress hormones and create the same physical, mental and emotional tension, whether or not the event is currently happening. So how about spending time getting it to fire off happy hormones, instead?
  3. It can help you sleep better - and dream happier! Psychologists have proven that our thoughts, as we fall asleep, set the tone for at least the next four hours of dreaming. Surely it's better to spend the night dreaming about things that make you feel good, rather than reliving your worries and stresses?
  4. It can change the way you think. When you decide to keep a gratitude journal, you are making a commitment to yourself, to turn your Monkey Mind's thought habits towards conversations that inspire you, instead of grumbling and criticising.
  5. It builds up your strength, for when things don't go so well. Gratitude can be thought of as being a mental and emotional 'muscle' which you can build up with daily exercise. If stuff goes wrong in life and your gratitude muscle is weak, you'll struggle to find a silver lining in those storm clouds. But if you already have a strong daily gratitude habit, then your gratitude muscle will be resilient and well-trained, meaning life's challenges don't knock you off course as much.

  6. It can turn you into an optimist. Having a generally optimistic attitude towards life has been shown to cut your stress levels and to improve your physical, mental and emotional health. By consciously looking for what is going well in your life, you are training yourself to have a more positive outlook.
  7. It can help with 'emotional first aid'. When 'stuff happens', it can be difficult to keep things in perspective and it's all too easy to drown in the drama of the stories your Monkey Mind is telling. Your gratitude journal give you back your perspective and help you to more easily handle whatever is going on for you.
  8. You can see what's great, not just what's gone wrong. If you have a long-term habit of letting your Monkey Minds grumble and gripe, then it becomes a world expert in pointing out everything that is bad and wrong and broken in our lives - and the wider world. Keeping a daily gratitude journal helps you to rebalance this, by also being able to see what is good and right and wonderful in our day-to-day experience of life.
  9. It helps you let go of old limiting beliefs. We tend to see what we expect in life - and what we expect is limited by our beliefs about what is possible and likely to happen. These beliefs work as a filter in your brain, passing through evidence to support them and rejecting evidence that would contradict them. If you use your gratitude journal to deliberately write down examples of "life being good" and "I feel happy", then over time old limiting beliefs will melt away.
  10. And finally... starting a gratitude journal is something that the 'future you' will thank you for! Imagine zooming ten or twenty years into your future, having kept a gratitude journal for all of that time. Do you think that the future you will be a different person to the one you are today? Do you think they might feel happier? Less stressed? More positive? Healthier? More vibrant? Generally more fun to be around? Or do you think they'll tell you that they wish you had never taken the time to spend a few minutes a day on gratitude and that they wish you had stayed stuck feeling stressed, miserable and grumpy? How about taking the first steps towards that 'future you' today - and starting your gratitude journal?

How To Start Your Gratitude Journal?

You can choose any notebook for your gratitude journal, but most people like to choose one that feels special. So you could go and buy one in your local store - or order one online. Then choose to write (or draw pictures) of 3-5 things you feel grateful for - ideally every day.

The main thing is that you make the decision to get started - and that you take some action.

And how about going a bit deeper than just writing stuff down each day? There are plenty of inspirational resources over at the Miracle Of Gratitude [http://www.miracleofgratitude.com]. They include:

  • A gratitude journal, which brings you the 'how to' of gratitude, in bite-sized, practical chunks - as well as a Readers' Club, with reader-only bonuses and a supportive online readers' forum
  • Monday Morning Gratitude Emails - to start your week with a smile on your face
  • plus inspirational articles, videos and online courses to inspire you to make the miracle of gratitude an easy and life-changing part of your daily routine!

Understanding the Significance of Emotional Intelligence

Be intelligent, follow the footprints of intelligent people, take their learnings and train under them so that you could also grab the wisdom they acquire. These are the stereotype statements made by our parents, relatives, senior citizen and even boss in the office.

It means being aware and intelligent in handling the situation is the key to debunk the formula of success. What kind of intelligence these guys are talking about? Are they talking about logical intelligence, which includes reasoning, detecting patterns, scientific investigations, decoding innovative and creative ideas, etc.

Almost 90% of the population possess logical intelligence, spoon fended by school/ college and experience collected with seniors and society, then why do they fail in life. Stress, tension, poor health, failed relationship are their best buddies and with time they also lose self-esteem and confidence in life.

So, it is evident that logical intelligence can push your success graph to an extent, but saturate after a point. Is intelligence really the panacea for all your tensions and miseries. My answer is yes, intelligence appended with emotions and feelings. It is called emotional intelligence.

What is emotional intelligence

Emotional intelligence is the ability to become aware about the emotions, create and access the emotions and manage our emotional wealth to encourage our personal, professional and spiritual growth. The benefit is if you are completely aware about your emotions and control your actions and reactions, you can easily self motivate and motivate everyone around, developing strong rapport and social skills with others and express compassion for others.

Twenty century displayed the substance of IQ (Intelligence Quotient), people character was judged on the basis of intelligent quotient. In a layman language, the ability to become money spinner and accord every luxurious entity possible.

Various researches have suggested that it is a failed exercise. To lead a happy, prosperous and successful life emotional intelligence is required. Although intelligent quotient is measured under certain parameters mental age and chronological age, but emotional intelligence has no such parameters and can be enhanced at any stage of life.

What are the benefits of EI

It is a false theory that emotional intelligence is only required in social arena like developing long-term quality relationship with others, but has a major role to play in every aspect of life. The crucial benefits of emotional intelligence are:-

Stress buster - During our emotional intelligence certification in conducted every year, we lay huge emphasis on explaining the importance of emotional intelligence in releasing stress, anxiety and tension and achieving a better state of health.

Ability to handle failure and criticism positively - There are less praises and more criticism in life. An EI understand his strengths and the areas to work on. He takes failure and criticism just another step closer to success.

Once you know what miracles EI can do for you, your life will take a complete 180 degree turn.

It is a false theory that emotional intelligence certification is only required in social arena like developing long term quality relationship with others.

Ten Excellent Ways To Reshape Your Life

1. Discover your Strengths (If you don't know what they are you need to find out)! What are you doing when you are at your best?

This question is deceptively simple but incredibly powerful. The most successful people in the world have discovered the things they are best at and build their working lives around those strengths.

If you don't know what your strengths are you can purchase a book that offers the test, it called STRENGTHS FINDERS.

2. Do a time diary - How do you (really) spend your time?

For one day, write down what you want to accomplish and then use any one of the online tools to keep a record of everything you do. Do some research to find one that is right for you. At the end of the day compare your goals with what actually happened. You can also do this without the expense of spending any funds if you are disciplined enough to do it.

This is an amazingly revealing exercise because it shows you how much time you waste on random, useless activities. How much time do you spend checking email? How much time on Facebook? How much time endlessly browsing the news, feeling productive but not actually accomplishing anything?

As an exercise, see if you can identify the 20% of your time that produced 80% of your results. What can you do to have more highly productive time like this?

3. Set Weekly Goals and Review Progress

What is your #1 goal this week? Setting goals is necessary. They help keep you focused. You waste lesstime and less money.

This personal investment strategy is similar to time management, but it lasts for an entire week. Oftentimes, we get so caught up in the day to day rush that we fail to step back and look at the things that are most critical.

It's the old urgent-versus-important problem. We spend our time dealing with small, urgent issues, when we should be focusing on important (but non-urgent) tasks. This week, fight back against the chaos by setting one main goal that you want to have accomplished in seven days. You can also pick two secondary goals if you're feeling ambitions, but no more than that.

Look back on how you did at the end of the week. Did setting goals help you work more purposefully and effectively? If you had done nothing but work on your three main goals, what would have happened?

4. Get a Mentor

This is a harder challenge, but the benefits are worth it.

You need to find a mentor.

Make a list of everyone you know who has a lot of experience in your line of business. If you don't know anyone who meets this criterion, broaden the search to people you know who were very successful in another field or with whom you particularly resonate.

Then, rank order your list of potential mentors by preference and start contacting them! Try to set up a regular meeting time and overarching goals for the relationship when you first get together. I'd also recommend establishing a task to work on in between each of your meetings, so you can get feedback and support from your mentor.

Mentoring relationships are a powerful source of knowledge, inspiration and connections - don't miss out!

5. Read a Great Book

Great books are like pre-packaged boxes of ideas, painstakingly put together by a brilliant author for you to assimilate. Why not take advantage of this amazing resource?

Here are a few of my favourite business books. I challenge you to read at least one of them over the next month:

Twenty Steps to a More Glorious You

Rich Dad Poor Dad- Robert Kiyosaki

Cha- Ching - Jeffrey Gitomer

Become Rich on Main Street - Rick Pierce

Each of these books transformed the way I thought about business. Reading these books is like hiring a business coach for just a fraction of the cost!!!

6. Start a Habit that will cause you to "stretch"

What is one thing you wish you did every day?

Here are some ideas:

  • Write a blog post
  • Learn something
  • Exercise
  • Reach out to an influencer
  • Brainstorm ideas
  • (think of a productive habit that you would like to do)
  • Guest post

Either take one of the above ideas or come up with your own. You're about to make the chosen activity into a habit that you perform each and every day, using one simple truth.

You can do anything for 21 days. Make it be something that you want to incorporate in your life.

7. Build Your Personal Brand

What does your online presence look like? What happens when someone Google's your name?

The topic of personal branding is too big to cover right here, so I'll limit myself to one actionable suggestion.

Challenge: Create an "Info-graphic Resume."

An info-graphic resume is a small, visually appealing webpage/rack card that provides your bio, contact information, accomplishments and skills.

Next time you need to introduce yourself to someone online, just direct them to your resume page (that wasn't so hard!).

8. Be Thankful

Being thankful is surprisingly powerful.

As Shawn Achor explains in his TED talk, taking five minutes each day to list three things you're thankful for trains your mind to look for the positive. Amazingly, maintaining a positive mindset makes you more productive and effective in your work (as well as happier in general!).

Who knew?

As an aside, I started doing this a few months ago. Within a week of adopting this habit, I had a string of absolutely incredible brainstorming sessions that gave me a vision for Viibrant's development over the next year.

That week was one of the most productive and creative periods in my life... and I wonder if it had anything to do with my new "thankfulness" habit. It may have just been a coincidence, but we'll never know for sure.

9. Find Your Why

Purpose is a powerful thing. It gets you up in the morning and keeps you awake at night. Anyone who accomplished anything great was driven by a strong, deeply-held belief of what is wrong with the world and how it can be made right.

What is your purpose? Why do you work?

Take an hour today to sit quietly by yourself and reflect on what you care about most deeply. What types of "bigger than yourself" activities really get you fired up or make you feel most fulfilled?

Don't skip this challenge. The benefits of knowing your purpose will last a lifetime.

10. The Biggest Danger Is Inaction

Change is always scary, and you may be reluctant to implement these suggestions for fear of what might happen to your business. But experimenting with these ideas will likely go unnoticed by most of your customers, especially those new to your business. If the changes aren't beneficial, you can always revert back to your old policies and pricing.

Without taking action, you'll never know how much money could be added to your bottom line.

Conclusion: Are you ready to get started with these challenges?

No one will do this work for you. How important

The Importance of Positive Affirmations to Kick Start Your Day

If you want to be successful, positive affirmations should be part of your morning ritual. For example, if you are a business professional, you can get ready for professional meetings using morning affirmations. This will help you face challenges, reduce your frustration, and have a positive outlook on your life. In this short article, we are going to take a look at the importance of positive affirmations to start your day. Read on to find out more.

What is an affirmation?

In simple terms, a positive affirmation is a specific statement that can help you to get control over your negative thoughts. With these positive statements, you can visualize what you actually want to do in order to bring positive changes in your life.

Neuroscientists developed positive affirmations in the 70s. They created a combo of linguistics and psychological structured thought patterns in order to achieve their desired outcomes. The thing is that language patterns can have an impact on the outcomes we desire.

All you have to do it think about it. With the passage of time, these positive thoughts will have a positive impact on your mindset. You will feel the power of positive thinking as positive thoughts are the building blocks of reality. As you continue to use positive affirmations, you will experience a higher degree of ambition and confidence that will push you to you do whatever you want.

Positive affirmations can help you:

  • Solve your problems
  • Reduce anxiety and stress
  • Achieve personal success
  • Boost positive emotions
  • Differentiate between negative and positive patterns of thought
  • Strengthen your relationships
  • Improve your relationships help you boost your confidence

Tips to get the most out of affirmations:

  • Start your day with positive affirmations and repeat them over and over again
  • Use positive affirmations in place of negative thinking
  • Use the present tense for these positive statements
  • If you are new to this phenomenon, know that it may take some time before you see the results of your effort.
  • Say the positive statements out loud.
  • Follow this routine for at least 30 days

Examples:

Now let's take a look at some great examples of positive statements you can repeat in the morning. Listed below are some of the statements that can help you get started.

  • 1. I am fit both physically and mentally, and I am full of energy.
  • 2. I have converted all of my negative energy into positive energy for a positive change.
  • 3. With each passing day, I am feeling better and healthy than before
  • 4. I love and take care of myself
  • 5. I always feel great and radiate positive feelings
  • 6. I have the right to good health and can do anything to take care of my body.

Long story short, if you want to bring positive changes in your life, we suggest that you change your mindset first. For this purpose, nothing can work better than positive affirmations. Therefore, you may want to change your routine and start your day with these positive statements. With the passage of time, you will experience positive changes in your life that will help you achieve success.

Secrets To Prosperity - Cultivate A Millionaire Mindset

The secret to prosperity lies in how you have programmed your thoughts. When you cannot control your mind, you will just move further away from cultivating a millionaire mindset. It is the effort that you put in not only today, but in a consistent manner that will reflect your future results.

We tend to send thoughts to the Universe requesting for change and financial freedom, but we do not know how to adequately use our mind power to receive the appropriate positive messages in return.

In order to control your mind power you need to effectively do the following:

1. Control your thoughts and not be distracted by trivialities

2. Change your daily habits from negative to positive, and stick to it.

3. Only talk about positive matters, because you ultimately become what you think.

Observe what you are talking about the whole day and question whether it includes mostly positive things that give you happiness.

To become a prosperous and successful person, you need to observe and learn from successful people. Read their life history, feel like one and behave like one. You must be able to visualize your future and be able to see your future with you to as a successful person.

Can you visualize yourself as a successful businessman and a millionaire in future? Can you make yourself feel like a millionaire? You should be able to see your future and dispel the notion that we are normally fearful of our future. We far too often visualize our future in negative forms rather than that of being a millionaire.

It is being said that a vibration is created, and the wealth energy takes over when you practice visualizing yourself as a millionaire often. The actual process of you becoming a millionaire will then be accelerated. This is based on the fact that your mind attains power through your thought waves, habits, and visualization. It is possible for you to achieve whatever you want through your mind power.

The very best practice will be to control your mind in the present moment without thinking of the future or the past. This mind power can be used to achieve financial freedom and whatever else you want to target. And free yourself from unnecessary negative thoughts. The key is to practice and implement less thoughts and much more action.

Handle your mind correctly

Psychology experts have determined that your mind is actually neutral, and it depends how you use it. It is actually you as a person who cause your mind to react negatively through your unnecessary negative thoughts and negative behaviours. Under most circumstances, your mind can be your best friend, but at times and it can also be your worst enemy. This negative relationship is often caused by stress that not only brings along discomfort but other diseases as well.

You need to control your mind to avoid stress. It is normally said that diseases are caused due to either incorrect food, or a bad environment but the actual fact is that your thought waves control more than what you might think.

Clear your negative thoughts and you will get a big boost on your way to cultivating a millionaire mindset. One of the easiest ways to manage your mind will be to practice meditation and positive affirmations about being a millionaire. When you can manage your mind, it will be easier to go to the next level of prosperity.

Start by Prioritising Your Happiness

Some people treat happiness as their main goal. When you ask them what they want in life they say, 'to be happy'. But happiness can be elusive. It creeps up on us when we least expect it, when we find ourselves smiling at a beautiful sunset, a table laid for a family meal, succeeding in a challenge, watching our friends laugh at a terrible joke.

Happiness is rarely about expensive gifts or acquisitions. So when planning for a positive, fulfilling life it's important to start by prioritising your happiness. Let's look at what this entails.

- Practise daily gratitude. This doesn't mean settling for second best or sitting back on your laurels, but is about being grateful for what you have and finding a balanced, grounded approach to life. Appreciation of others, valuing the lessons learned from challenges and setbacks, the relationships in your life, the food, air, roof over your head, running water, all can all be taken for granted but are things many others don't have. Those people would be happy to be in your shoes.

- Happiness comes from being inspired, so ensure you have things that motivate you to improve, to be better, reach a higher level. This may be learning new skills, expanding your area of expertise, focusing on a new direction, something that elevates your vision, stretches you and brings a sense of achievement.

- Leaving our familiar comfort zone can be scary and exhilarating, yet often results in us feeling happy and proud of ourselves afterwards. Even trying new food, another route to work, having a go at something we're apprehensive about can prompt a positive shift in our thinking and a happier sense of self.

- Being challenged is important to happiness too. Being receptive to new ideas and initiatives, being prepared to say, 'yes' even when unsure of yourself. Why not say 'yes' first and work out how to do it afterwards! Self-improvement and development bring their own happiness and fulfillment.

- Do things you do well. Being challenged is often a good experience but if life is already stressful making time to do something you know you're good at can be an important reminder of how competent and capable you are. And we all need a little window of success in a stressful life. Enjoy it, even if it's icing a cake, putting up shelving or supporting an elderly neighbour.

- Rewards can bring happiness. Yes, we deserve to be rewarded for our efforts financially. We need to live and pay our bills. But also reward yourself by ensuring you have a space, a place where you go and feel secure, able to relax. It may be your bedroom, with lovely prints, cushions, flowers and music. When you're there you close the door on the world, destress and chill.

- Being involved with others can bring happiness; teaching, mentoring, coaching, volunteering are often fulfilling experiences. And the people we're involved with may bring new ideas, inspiration, suggestions of their own that add value to our lives.

- Don't follow the crowd. Others have their own stories, motivations and limitations. They may begrudge you your energy and drive, preferring that you don't remind them of their apparent lack of ambition, but we're all different and each of us have needs and wants that evolve over time. Reflect on those relationships and consider if it's time to reduce their influence in your life.

- Mix with people who like, support and encourage you; they're your fans and ambassadors. People who like you treat you with respect, may challenge you on occasion, but they're in your court and you're in theirs. Nurturing 'your' people allows you to be vulnerable, wrong sometimes and able to discuss any problem areas in an accepting, non-judgmental arena.

- Indulge your senses. Happiness comes from incorporating smell, taste, touch as well as music and beautiful art and colours. Make time to enjoy nature, your pets. Visit the beach, the forest and stimulate your senses; feel the sand underneath your feet.

- Give yourself regular free time. Happiness is about ensuring there's balance in your life. Prioritising time for fun, sport, exercise, reading is important. Sometimes work may require extra attention, but aim to regularly give yourself time out, perhaps just to sit with a coffee at the mall.

- Insist on being treated with respect by those you come into contact with. Good boundaries matter. Unhappiness can occur if we feel disrespected, treated dismissively or are taken for granted. Intercept bad treatment at the outset and be firm about good manners and consideration. But equally remember to invest time and attention in your good relationships.

- Deal with your demons. Happiness is about being at peace with ourselves, forgiving any failures, past mistakes or errors of judgement. If you're struggling therapy could be a good way to heal and recover from negative patterns and ways of thinking. Be gentle with yourself and move on from unhelpful self-talk. It can make all the difference to your happiness levels.

Look after yourself. Eat well, exercise, commit to regular sleep. Practise these tips, prioritise your health and happiness will follow.
